Take, This is my body. Maximum one slice per person
(2021)
bread in the shape of my face, served with butter in the shape of my brain (extracted from MRI-scan-data), ceramic, knife, my grandmother’s linen and silver.
variable dimensions
This work developed during the pandemic lockdowns in 2021 and a time in which I was longing for communion as well as thinking about the mass-obsession with our own bodies and the distance between them. I had a strange desire of wanting to be consumed, to literally put my art into another’s body, for it to be processed.
The work was offered to the audience to eat and leftovers were shared with birds outside the exhibition space.
Bread can be representative for both life, money and god. It shows up in religion and government and often acts as a means of control. The breadwinner, or the one making the ‚dough’ is the one putting the food on the table. Bread is power, and it has been used this way for millennia: “Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt”
